About

Originally hailing from deepest darkest Lincolnshire the Kosmischeboy, or Dan Doughty as his mother prefers to call him, is a rarely seen creature. Venturing out of his rural retreat occasionally he used to work selling Orcs and Trolls to teenagers in an establishment know as Games Workshop. While admitting to a severe “gaming” interest he has not developed into the fully fledged wargamer and does not (yet) sport the huge belly and woolly jumper that inevitably follow this preoccupation.

Occasionally the Kosmischeboy is known to perform “music” either on his own or as a synthesist for hire. He has played all over the UK and in mainland Europe including appearances at various festivals. Current musical and multimedia output is under the name DUTY, which is a project inspired by Dan’s love of melodic synthesiser driven 1980s and 1990s music and the soundtracks of John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream combined with a love for British Public Information Films.

Recently the music of Duty has switched focus onto Dan’s home county of Lincolnshire, writing and performing a set of electronic songs and visuals based on the region called “The Lincolnshire Suite”. A recent remix project resulted in several great remixes of Lincolnshire Suite track “The Windmill” from the likes of Black Tempest, Spaceship, Dave Formula (Magazine/Visage) and Dan Donovan.

With a catalogue of self released tracks on bandcamp accompanied by some wider releases through labels like Woodford Halse, Duty has been described as “varied synthi and Berlin School type elements… a flashback to the UK Electronica events of the 1980s/90s.” By Alan Freeman in Audion Magazine.

The Kosmischeboy listens to any music at all but has a soft spot for Electronica, Krautrock, Punk, Industrial music and Miles Davis, much to everyone else’s annoyance.
